Smart Tips from SmartPower: How to Slash Your Utility Bill

Bills. Bills. Bills. One of the worst parts about having your own place! But a few tips can save you lots of money on your energy bills.
First, don’t waste electricity. Always turn off the lights when you leave a room. Even better, unplug items such as your cell phone charger or hair dryer after you finish using them. “Phantom load” is the electricity that is still used by electronic appliances even if they are turned off or on standby mode.
Look out for lights! Seek out energy-efficient light bulbs. If you can go all the way, seek out Energy Star-certified products. Not only are they more efficient, they can even cost less.
And remember, heat and air conditioning are great — but an extra blanket or sweater, or opening the window, can go a long way in slashing your utility bill and working towards going green!
