REMA: Overview
What is REMA?
The Renewable Energy Marketers Association (REMA) is a trade association of interested entities involved in the creation, supply, purchase, sale, advocacy, and education about renewable energy and renewable energy certificates (RECs). REMA is comprised of organizations that sell or promote renewable energy products through voluntary markets. Members There are 10 Founding Members of REMA and they come from both the for-profit and non-profit industry sectors. REMA members currently (as of 3/08) include: 3Degrees, Bonneville Environmental Foundation, Community Energy, Conservation Services Group, Constellation NewEnergy, FPL Energy, Renewable Choice Energy, Sterling Planet SunEdison and SmartPower. Goals & MissionThe purpose of this association is to represent the renewable energy marketers’ collective interests in moving the voluntary market forward in a sustainable way. This organization is leading initiatives that are designed to support and expand the market for RECs and renewable energy. REMA promotes the economic and national security benefits of renewable energy. The Association is developing industry leadership in recognition of RECs, and in integration with GHG emission markets and regulatory policies. The Association is developing significant relationships with industry leaders and various outside entities, including regulators, legislators, major environmental advocacy groups, academics and other for-profit companies to achieve its agenda. Core ValuesThe core value of renewable energy marketers is that a customer’s voluntary purchase of renewable energy should make a difference by creating incremental amounts of additional renewable energy and by conveying clear property rights to the buyer of the associated environmental attributes Policy initiatives at the state and federal level can affect the validity of the above core values to remain true for voluntary buyers of renewable energy. Therefore, the work of REMA is focused on both education and policy advocacy. This work will maintain and enhance the integrity of voluntary purchases being able to continue to deliver on the core values of creating more renewable energy and on delivering environmental attributes.
