SmartPower Community Outreach Manager

SmartPower, a national non­profit marketing organization dedicated to promoting clean energy and energy efficiency seeks a mature, poised, confidant and strong on-the-ground Community Outreach Manager to work in Connecticut. The Community Outreach Manager shares a passion for clean energy and environmental issues, and will primarily implement a range of on­the­ground solar and energy efficiency programs in Connecticut. The ideal candidate may also assist in SmartPower’s various programs throughout New England.

Specific responsibilities of this position include meeting with municipal leaders, and other community leaders to motivate them to actively participate in SmartPower’s programs. The Community Outreach Manager will help advance program activities with local organizations, volunteers, Solar Ambassadors and solar installers to identify and execute on­-the-­ground outreach partnership opportunities such as tabling at events to sign up participants, hosting workshops, holding open houses, and using newsletters, news stories, and social media to increase residential, community­-wide and even business participation. The Community Outreach Manager will coordinate these activities between local volunteers, Ambassadors, installers and contractors. There will also be important data collection, tracking and reporting responsibilities. The Community Outreach Manager will work under the direction of SmartPower’s Vice President.

  • You’re a “people person” who has a passion for meeting and helping people. You have the ability to work successfully with all types of people.
  • You are detail-oriented with superb organizational skills with strong followthrough and experienced with data collection, tracking and reporting on project results.
  • You are comfortable with and know how to use technology in all forms. Social media and on-line communications are not challenges for you.
  • You are highly productive in a virtual office environment and are skilled at collaborating, asking for and providing feedback, and building relationships with a team of co-workers in a virtual environment.
  • You live in Connecticut and are familiar with the state and communities.
  • You have a valid driver’s license, own and drive a car.
  • You present yourself in a professional manner at all times.
  • You have a dynamic personality and a good sense of humor. You work well as a team and when you commit to something, you’re “all in”.

The ideal candidate is someone with 2-3 years work experience in community outreach, political campaigns, the Peace Corps or the environmental/energy/solar industry.

SmartPower
Vice President

SmartPower, a national non-profit marketing organization dedicated to promoting clean energy and energy efficiency seeks an experienced, confident and strong leader in Connecticut. The ideal candidate will share a passion for energy and environmental issues and live in Connecticut. The Vice President will lead multiple ongoing projects in the state, implement campaign work plans, manage client relations, and develop new opportunities in the region.

Responsibilities of this position include ensuring SmartPower projects deliver contractual performance metrics on time and on budget; implementation of program work plans, supervision of Connecticut-based staff; ongoing communication with clients about project performance, improvements and efforts; both lead and participate in collaboration with other SmartPower team members. The Vice President will represent SmartPower with existing clients, project partners, state and regional leaders, academic partners and colleagues, and potential clients.

An important responsibility of this position is developing relationships and networks to leverage the success of current projects to other clients in Connecticut and the region. This includes pursuing known opportunities, cultivating new opportunities and developing project concepts and proposals. The Vice President will work under the direction of SmartPower’s Washington, DC-based Chief Operating Officer.

SmartPower Visual/Social Media Intern

SmartPower is an award-winning nonprofit organization that works on behalf of utilities, businesses, foundations, state agencies and the federal government to turbo-charge energy efficiency and renewable energy efforts. Our innovative on-the-ground campaigns use friendly competitions and challenges to engage customers, drive results, improve customer satisfaction and save energy.

SmartPower seeks summer interns to provide video and social media content to advance energy efficiency and solar campaigns, perform general office administration and assist in other projects as needed.

Specific responsibilities of this position include but are not limited to:

• Creating clear visual representations of SmartPower’s work that communicate our research and experiences in the field in clear, succinct, and visually compelling ways (this could include infographics, Prezis, charts, graphs and videos);
• Creating exciting videos for social media;
• Generating, editing and disseminating testimonials from campaigns and volunteers;
• Writing and editing blog posts and articles;
• Various research projects;
• Writing social media outreach;
• Administrative duties as assigned.

The Visual/Social Media Intern(s) will work in our Washington, DC headquarters under the direction of SmartPower’s Program Assistant.

A terrific candidate for this position will demonstrate that:

• You are able to creatively express quantitative data in an engaging visual format.
• You have an understanding and commitment to environmental, energy efficiency and renewable energy.
• You are skilled at creating and editing videos.
• You have excellent PC and/or Macintosh computer and Internet skills including proficiency with MS Office, Word, PowerPoint, Excel, InDesign, Prezi and other software tools for graphic design.
• You are passionate and creative as well as able to meet the demands of deadlines and metrics.
• You have excellent written and oral communication skills, with an ability to visually tell a story.
• You have demonstrated using good judgment when faced with uncertainty.
• You are drama-free, able to undertake any task with poise and confidence.
• You are flexible and easy going with a good sense of humor.

The ideal candidate will be a current student studying Communications, Digital Media, Graphic Design, or related.
